At the basis of am 's activity is the design+build activity, that is, an analytical and creative flow that leads from the discussion of ideas to the realization of the work and its use by the reference community.

The am project is built around the concepts of participation, with the aim of combining the educational aspect with the valorization of public spaces through small interventions conceived and realized jointly by young designers in dialogue with groups of citizens and artisans. Designers , clients and builders , the three essential components in the development of the process that leads to the realization of architecture, compare their ideas and skills in very short spaces and times to arrive at a small permanent realization. The design+build workshops are designed to encourage collective work, comparison and synthesis of proposals: the group develops around the project and its realization, which becomes the product of all the participants by merging theoretical choices and practical adaptations.

The main limitation of these design+build experiments, the limited time, becomes their strength by making collaboration necessary through the comparison and synthesis of individual thoughts, and underlining the possibility of mutual learning.

Collaboration as a vehicle for developing ideas requires that teacher-discussion relationships evolve towards working methods that emphasize the contribution of each individual to the work developed in the group. Collaboration, even if often omitted and hidden, is in fact the basis of all complex creations, even if there is a tendency to privilege the role of a single author, setting aside the many other contributions, often decisive for a positive final result.
