How can we transform urban spaces for mobility into open places to host various activities and people of different ages and backgrounds? The public transport stops in L'Aquila, despite their different locations and users, share the common characteristics of being unwelcoming and unconnected to their surroundings. Site visits of three stops, analysis of their physical, social and environmental space, presentation of studies of urban mobility in previous workshops held by VIVIAMOLAq association let to the choice of the design site: the stop at Monteluco di Roio, close to the Engineering Faculty of the University.

The zigzag screens embrace the existing stop and extend the waiting space following the turn of the bus route to offer domesticity to a vast desolate space surrounded by a fascinating landscape: new sitting places, shady areas and windows framing the views of the Appennini mountains. The pale blue inner edges of the openings invite to widen the look towards the surrounding environment.
